St. Mary's Enough!
Addiction Recovery and Support Ministry Barnegat/Manahawkin, New Jersey
1. We seek to educate our parishioners and communities in Substance Use Disorder, and addiction-related topics. Over the years we have had a variety of speakers, from members of 12-Step Anonymous programs, local Police, people from local organizations which offer treatment and counseling solutions. We provide information on 12-Step programs and have a variety of timely and informative programs throughout the year.
2. We are a Catholic Ministry and so we support prayer for those affected by addiction. We especially encourage Saint Maximilian Kolbe prayer/novena for the addicted (Saint Kolbe is the saint of the addicted.) Both Saint Mary’s Churches carry novena cards for parishioners to pray for loved ones caught in addiction. We also promote two special Masses, one for those affected by addiction and their families and friends, and the other is our Mass of Remembrance for those who have passed away from addiction.
3. Most in the group are recovering 12-Step members and/or family members with a loved one with Substance Use Disorder (SUD.) As such, we are in a unique position to offer hope and help. Saint Mary’s Rectory has a list of our names and phone numbers to give out when someone calls looking for help, We also support and attend the 12-Step meetings held at Saint Mary’s.
We provide support to those whose lives are affected by addiction. In addition to hosting informative and educational speakers in the fields of recovery and prevention, our volunteer CORE TEAM with long-term and personal addiction and recovery experience, offer a compassionate listening ear and can provide referrals and guidance to those seeking further assistance.
St. Mary's Enough! Addiction Recovery and Support Ministry was established in January 2018 by Msgr. Ken to address the terrible affliction of addiction in our community. We meet once a month to discuss ways and share ideas on how to educate our community about this dreadful epidemic.
At Enough! St Mary's Ministry for the Addicted or those seeking help for someone addicted, we started with a simple idea: to help someone through a difficult time in their life with accurate and reliable information.
We have resources to meet your need, no matter what your addiction is.
Our Ministry is made up of passionate individuals with years of experience. This experience comes from living in addiction, seeking help from it and living an addiction free life. We are dedicated to providing the best possible service to you and your loved ones. helping them achieve their goal with confidence to overcome addiction.
We offer a wide range of services, including information from Anonymous sites dealing with a particular addiction, an in person visit with someone in recovery. Our goal is to provide you or your loved ones with the insights they need to make informed decisions.
St. Maximilian Kolbe, a Polish priest and Conventual Franciscan friar, had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother from the age of ten, when Our lady appeared to him and presented him with two crowns, a white crown of chastity and a red crown of martyrdom. In 1917 he founded the “Militia Immaculata,” a movement dedicated to encouraging people to make a total consecration of themselves to Jesus, through Mary. In 1927 he founded the “City of the Immaculata,” a monastery that became a leading center for publishing pamphlets, books, and a daily newspaper (“The Knight of the Immaculata,” with a circulation of over 1 million). Kolbe eventually caught the attention of the Nazis, and in 1941 the monastery was shut down. Kolbe was arrested and taken to Pawiak prison in Warsaw, Poland, and three months later to Auschwitz. When men were chosen to be starved to death as a deterrent against escapes, Kolbe volunteered to take the place of a man with a family. After two weeks of starvation, Kolbe was the only man still alive. On August 14, 1941, he was given a lethal injection of carbolic acid. He was canonized by Pope St. John Paul II on October 10, 1982. The man whose place Kolbe took, Franciszek Gajowniczek, survived Auschwitz and was present as a guest at St. Kolbe’s canonization.
